Court calendars can move. A hearing can be delayed, a courtroom can change, and an unpublished start time can stay unpublished until the last moment.

This guide covers five scheduled court events for September 13–19, with official sources and the narrow question before each court. A pretrial hearing is not a trial. A status conference is not a verdict. A sentencing date is not a sentence already imposed.

Every unresolved charge remains an allegation. Every person facing an unresolved charge is presumed innocent unless proved guilty in court.

Nick Reiner: What can happen at a post-indictment pretrial?

Why this is on the list

The Los Angeles County District Attorney identifies Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner as the two people whose deaths are at issue. The office says a grand-jury indictment against Nick Reiner was unsealed in August.

The charges are allegations. Reiner is presumed innocent.

What is scheduled

A post-indictment pretrial hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, September 15, in Department 108 at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center in Los Angeles. A start time was not published in the Los Angeles County District Attorney announcement reviewed for this edition.

The court can address scheduling and other steps needed before trial. The official announcement calls the September 15 event a pretrial hearing; use that current label rather than the older preliminary-hearing label.

What this does not decide

The pretrial hearing does not decide guilt, punishment, or the result of any future trial.

What to watch

  • Whether the court sets or changes future dates.

  • Whether either side raises a pretrial issue.

  • Whether a later order clarifies the path to trial.

Pan Am Flight 103: What is scheduled at the next status hearing?

Why this is on the list

The federal case is United States v. Abu Agila Mohammad Mas’ud Kheir Al-Marimi. The Justice Department maintains a case-information page for victims, loved ones, and the public.

This listing is about the next court event. It does not label Mas’ud with an allegation as if it were a verdict.

What is scheduled

A status hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, September 15, at 10:00 a.m. Eastern in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The Justice Department’s case-information page says a September 1 hearing was moved to this date at the parties’ joint request.

The earlier order named a courtroom for the September 1 setting. The later notice did not repeat that room, so this guide does not carry it forward.

A status hearing lets the judge and the parties address scheduling and the condition of the pending case.

What this does not decide

It is not a verdict and does not impose a sentence.

What to watch

  • Whether the court announces a new trial schedule.

  • Whether a new written case-management order appears.

  • Whether the location or format of the hearing is clarified.

Angelo Smith: What can a pretrial conference decide?

Why this is on the list

The Cuyahoga County Clerk of Courts docket lists pending felony charges against Angelo Smith in Case No. CR-26-714090-A.

Those charges are allegations, and Smith is presumed innocent unless and until proved guilty.

What is scheduled

A pretrial conference is scheduled for Wednesday, September 16, at 9:00 a.m. Eastern in Room 17-B before Judge Jennifer O’Donnell. Court settings can change, so confirm the docket before relying on the date or time.

A pretrial conference is an interim proceeding that may address scheduling, motions, and other steps before trial.

What this does not decide

It is not a trial or verdict.

What to watch

  • Watch for any trial date.

  • Watch for any motion ruling or plea.

  • Watch for any other disposition reflected in a later docket entry.

Lewis Santiago: Sentencing is scheduled, but it has not happened yet

Why this is on the list

Connecticut’s Division of Criminal Justice says Lewis Santiago pleaded guilty in July to felony murder and criminal possession of a firearm. The office identifies Tyrese Blue Jr. as the person who died in the 2023 shooting.

Santiago has pleaded guilty to those counts. The sentence remains for the court to impose.

What is scheduled

Sentencing is scheduled for Wednesday, September 16, in New Haven Superior Court. The Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice release reviewed for this edition did not publish a start time.

The plea agreement calls for an expected 35-year sentence. That is an expected outcome, not a sentence already imposed.

The court can impose the sentence and enter the related judgment.

What this does not decide

The hearing does not determine responsibility or punishment for anyone who is not before the court.

What to watch

  • The sentence the judge actually imposes.

  • Any conditions stated on the record.

  • The final written judgment.

Victor Pérez-Fernández: Keep the guilty pleas separate

Why this is on the list

The Drug Enforcement Administration says Victor J. Pérez-Fernández pleaded guilty in June to taking part in a charged drug-trafficking conspiracy and possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

The federal case concerns the killing of Puerto Rico Police Sergeant Eliezer Ramos-Vélez. The official release describes guilty pleas by several defendants, but the counts are not identical. This edition does not assign another defendant’s plea to Pérez-Fernández.

What is scheduled

Sentencing for Pérez-Fernández is scheduled for Friday, September 18, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico. The Drug Enforcement Administration release did not publish a start time.

The court can decide Pérez-Fernández’s sentence for the offenses to which he pleaded guilty.

What this does not decide

The hearing does not decide punishment or legal responsibility for the other defendants.

What to watch

  • The sentence imposed on Pérez-Fernández.

  • How the written judgment describes his two offenses.

  • Whether later court records clarify the remaining cases.

Frequently asked questions

What dates does this edition cover?

It covers Sunday, September 13, through Saturday, September 19, 2026. The reporting cutoff is September 11, Pacific Time.

Why can a court date change?

Judges can continue a hearing, approve a joint request, or change a schedule through a later order. A published date is something to watch, not a promise that the event will occur exactly as first listed.

Does a hearing predict an outcome?

No. Pretrial and status hearings usually address procedure, scheduling, or motions. They do not prove a charge. A sentencing hearing follows a plea or conviction, but the sentence is not final until the court imposes it.

Where can I follow later changes?
